DjVu, pronounced déjà vu, is a file type that offers strong compression for high-resolution images. While similar to TIFF and PDF file types, DjVu offers much stronger compression than either of those. The most common use of DJVU files is to store scanned documents, which makes it more of a document file type than an image file. DjVu has the advantage of compressing files without sacrificing quality. However, the disadvantage is that special software is required to open DjVu.
A special software program is required to open a DjVu file. You must download this software to your computer, but fortunately, it’s free. Download the DjVu Browser Plug-in, which will enable you to open the files using any modern web browser. Often, DjVu files are converted to PDF, which is more familiar to most users.
For a list of programs that open DjVu files, visit DjVu.org. In addition, several programs are available for converting DjVu files. Cross-platform converters include DjVu to PDF. In addition, a page-specific converter is available that allows you to set the level of quality and compression. The name of this program is DjVu Converter.

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a resolution-independent, open-standard file format. It is based on Extensible Markup Language (XML), uses vector graphics, and supports limited animation. The main benefit of using an SVG file is, as the name implies, its scalability. This file type can be resized without a loss in image quality. In addition, SVG is unique in that it is not an image format. Instead, it is an XML-based standard that provides information for creating two-dimensional vector images.
SVG files open readily in most web browsers, such as Firefox or Microsoft Edge. In addition, since SVG is an XML file, you can view the XML-associated text in any common text editor, such as Windows Notepad or Brackets for macOS.
It is possible to use Adobe programs for opening and editing SVG files. Just be sure to install the SVG Kit for Adobe Creative Suite plug-in first. Converting SVG files is possible with the aid of a few online tools. For conversion to non-vector file types, try our SVG to GIF or SVG to PDF tools. To convert to vector files like SVG into JPG, try our SVG to JPG or SVG to PNG tools.
