Nikon RAW (NRW) is a raw image file type produced by the Nikon COOLPIX series and other Nikon digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras. Nikon has used NRW since 2008 to capture and store unprocessed images for its professional-level cameras. In comparison to NEF (Nikon’s other raw format), NRW supports useful features, such as Windows Imaging Component (WIC) .
Nikon Capture NX-D is the most common program for opening NRW. (It replaced Nikon Capture NX 2.) On Microsoft Windows, the NRW Codec supports NRW. On macOS, use Nikon Capture NX-D for Mac. ViewNX is a really great program that Nikon bundles with the purchase of their cameras, with the added benefit that it complements Capture NX-D.
Alternative programs for opening NRW include HDR Darkroom, Zoner Photo Studio, and Corel PaintShop Pro. NRW can be easily converted to JPEG format using FreeConvert.com ( NRW to JPG ). A great multiplatform converter for NRW is XnView MP. On Linux/Unix, try darktable, which is open-source, cross-platform, and free. Other programs to consider include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, HDR Darkroom, and Zoner Photo Studio.

The Portable Document Format (PDF) is a universal file format that comprises characteristics of both text documents and graphic images which makes it one of the most commonly used file types today. The reason PDF is so widely popular is that it can preserve original document formatting. PDF files always look identical on any device or operating system.
Most people head right to Adobe Acrobat Reader when they need to open a PDF. Adobe created the PDF standard and its program is certainly the most popular free PDF reader out there. It's completely fine to use, but I find it to be a somewhat bloated program with lots of features that you may never need or want to use.
Most web browsers, like both Chrome and Firefox, can open PDFs themselves. You may or may not need an add-on or extension to do it, but it's pretty handy to have one open automatically when you click a PDF link online. I highly recommend SumatraPDF or MuPDF if you're after something a bit more. Both are free.
