Leica D-Lux 4 RAW (RWL) is the default raw file format produced by a Leica D-Lux 4 camera. Raw files serve the same purpose as physical negatives produced by film. Therefore, the ability to have access to almost all of an RWL image’s information is the main advantage and benefit of working with this raw file type.
It’s best to open RWL files with an Adobe product, such as Photoshop Lightroom, on both Microsoft Windows (Windows) and macOS. Other Windows-compatible programs for opening RWL are HDR Darkroom and Zoner Photo Studio.
An alternative viewer for RWL is XnView MP. RWL is also supported by Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw, Adobe DNG Converter, and Magix Photo Manager.

Alternative programs such as GIMP or Adobe Photoshop are useful for opening and editing PNG files. PNG files are a bit larger than other file types, so exercise caution when adding them to a web page. One interesting feature of PNG files is the ability to create transparency in the image, particularly a transparent background.
